Thorin was incredibly greedy at the end point of this story. I believe that Thorin would regret his greed because life isn't all about money and gold and material things. Life is about the things like love and graciousness. Life is about following God's will and money and treasure is not part of it. Tolkien is teaching us that he died on a bad note. He died with being greedy. Greed changes who we are inside. Tolkien was saying, Thorin died, out of greed, and material wealth isn't important. You would rather die happy with mo gold, then sad and lonely with a lot of gold. In the end Tolkien is saying money can't buy you happiness. ~ I agree! ~ Mrs. Best

There were many times where I thought that I had grown in a very positive way. One of those times was when I got my puppy. My puppys name is Franklin Alfred Sonatra Junior Beckers. My whole family thought it would be awesome if there was a new member to the family. We knew we couldn't adopt a human, even though I would love a little sibling, so instead we thought about getting new puppy. We researched all different kinds of dogs. Big and Small. Long and Short. Shedding and Non-Shedding. We finally came up with a fluffy brown and golden beautiful dog. On our way to look at all the Cockapoos at the Breeder, we were so so so excited. I was bouncing up and down in my car seat, drinking a cherry Cocacola singing a tune. I remember the day like it was yesterday. When we were almost there we could hear the little chirps from the new born babies. There were about twelve puppies running around the park. There were boys and girls and black and brown pups all together having the time of there life with each other. I felt sad that they would have to leave there family, but they would be getting a new family that would take care of them so much. There was one puppy that had curly hair and was rolling around in the grass. It was a boy. He was so cute. I could feel that he was the one! So I asked Sydney and my mommy if the brown puppy would be okay. They looked at it and right away saw its energetic quality that us Beckers have!! I said I am so excited to get it!! Lets go quick so we can go home and play!! My mommy said okay okay Allie settle down, let the puppy say goodbye to its family. I said okay but I was just so eager to go home and play with the darn thing. On our way home, I got to hold his fluffy lush hair that was so short and curly. The first Quality I saw on him in the car was his eyelashes~!! They were so long! He was small, about four and a half pounds when we got hm. His eyes were an amazing shade of brown and when you looked into them you couldn't help but kiss his little nose. My mom told me that this would be a hard responsibility but I knew that. You know when you get a fish or a hamster or even a cat, Your mom says that same thing. But it is just different with a dog. You have a special connection with a dog. They make you laugh and they just have a vibe with you. I knew it was going to be hard taking care of Frank with all my sports and homework, but I feel like I am a lot more responsible now that I have a dog. I make sure that I fill his dog bowl with food and water before I leave for school. I also make sure that I play with him before bed time. I love him and he has made me grow in so many ways. I am responsible and I got the chance to experience how it would be when I have a daughter or son. It takes work and patience and Frank sure taught me that because let me tell you, he is a piece of work sometimes!! HAHA. Just as Bilbo is on a journey, the journey will come to an end eventually and so will my journey with my puppy, but I know that I have to make each day count and have the best adventure I can through the puppy that makes me laugh, smile, and makes me closer to my family through the funny things he does!! One Conflict in the Hobbit is a Conflict Nature. The Conflict I chose was when Bilbo got separated from the rest of the 14 adventurers. This Conflict is a Conflict of Nature because Gandolf and the Dwarfs--the most important Dwarf,Thorin, (I thought I would use an appositive) didn't mean to lose Bilbo and Bilbo did not purposely go away from the group either. Bilbo is now stuck in the cave where the Goblin, Gollum lives and Gollum had Bilbo how about a comma + conjuc.? trapped inside his cave home. Bilbo needed to solve a riddle in order to escape but instead, Gollum starts running at him and trying to eat Bilbo. The author made this conflict happen because he wanted us to keep reading to find out whether or not Bilbo escapes and finds the group of hunting adventurers!! (All of Chapter 5) You seem to be mixing conflicts. You need to stick to what the dark cave was like for poor Bilbo to have Man against Nature. There is enough information in the chapter for you to do that. Once you talk about Gollum, you have man vs. man conflict. Yes? ~ Mrs. Best
Riordan Ryan- Reading 8th Period I like the way that you explained Bilbo's situation in the dark caves, stuck talking to the terrible little creature Gollum. This gives both an example of Character against Character conflict and Character against Nature conflicts. I agree with you saying that this was a page turner. It is my favorite chapter in the book so far. I also wanted to know if Bilbo would escape the mountain full of Goblins without being captured, like you said. In your own words, describe what happens next to Bilbo and the dwarves in the forest.
After Bilbo finds the pack of adventurers, they travel through the forest. The forest had many tall trees with many boughs. As they are walking they hear, "Ahooooooooo!" After trying to figure out what that was, they finally realize that that noise was a pack of wolfs coming. But where should they hide if they are in the middle of the forest? Behind the trees, NO! The wolfs would smell them and eat them up. Finally Gandolf says, "Climb up the trees." With no time to spare the Dwarves hurry up the trees. When they are all up in the highest bough, that they knew wouldn't give out because of the weight, they see Bilbo down at the bottom!!! He cannot CLIMB!!! So then one of the trusted Dwarves, hurries down to Bilbo. When he gets out of the trees, they here, Boom-Boom-Boom. Those must be they wolfs, they cried. The Dwarf pulled Bilbo on to his back and they hurried up the tree. As they came, they were talking in a language that only Gandolf understood. Gandolf seemed sickened by what the Wargs, or wicked wolves were talking about. so he gathered pinecones and set them alight in different colors and threw them at the pack. Wargs are extremely frightened towards fire. The Wargs right away started rolling on their backs, trying to put out the sparks. Finally the fire chased them off. Then, the Lord of the Eagles shouted, "What is all this uproar in the forest tonight?" Then the goblins ran in and sang their little tune. They shouted 15 little birds in five fir-trees. Come out little birds or you will burn. The Goblins were going to light the trees on fire if they didn't come down. Gandolf warned them that if they didn't go away then they would be punished. Just as Gandolf was going to try to kill as many of the wolves and goblins, The Lord of the Eagles seized his leap. The Lord of the Eagles and other birds came and saved the dwarves from the goblins and wolves. They took the Dwarves and Bilbo far far away from where they were. They were fed and no longer famished.
